Intec PS2 Compact Gamer Screen Play PlayStation 2 games and DVD movies anywhere By Don Lee

When Sony released the PlayStation Portable, it was to provide the PlayStation experience outside of the home. Intec created the PS2 Compact Gamer Screen to provide gamers with the ability to take their slimmed down PlayStation 2 consoles on the road.

The Intec PS2 Compact Gamer Screen was designed to fit easily onto the back of the game console, fold down when not in use and provide the people with the opportunity to enjoy their PlayStation 2 games or DVD movies wherever they go.

The Portable PlayStation 2
The Gamer Screen?s objective is to provide a option for those of you who want to continue to enjoy their PS2 on the road. Now this is not the type of device that you can fit into your pocket or take it along with you in some public places but it?s great for trips.

The PS2 Compact Gamer Screen design is similar to the slimmed down PS2. To install the screen, you will need to unplug your power cord from the PS2 first. Remember that this device can only be installed on the slim PS2 not the original PS2 model. Once the PS2 is free, you will need to gently mount the screen onto the back of the PS2. The Intec PS2 Compact Gamer Screen has two thumbscrews and a power port near the bottom of the device. You will need to line up those two thumbscrews and the power port to the back of the PS2 where you will find the openings available to make the connection. Once you line up the thumbscrews, you will just have to turn the thumbscrews clockwise to tighten but don?t overdo it.

Intec Compact Gamer ScreenNow that you?ve got it all hooked up, you?re ready to play. Just pop in your favorite PlayStation 2 game or your DVD movie and power up the screen. After a little adjusting of the brightness and the colors, the screen acts just like your television set at home.

Now I tried a number of different games using the screen and the picture quality is pretty good. Don?t try to compare it to your 60 inch HD quality television in your living room. This is about playing when you don?t have access to that television set and the Intec Compact Gamer Screen does a pretty good job. On the 5.4 inch color screen, games such as Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, Jak X : Combat Racing and Ultimate Spider-Man all looked pretty good and very playable. I was surprised with Jak X: Combat Racing because that game has a lot of action going on and some of the game?s scenery is a little dark so I thought it would be tough to play on such a small screen but I was very pleased with the screen?s quality. Even the Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith DVD displayed fine on the screen. The two built-in stereo speakers that surround the screen also provide some good quality sound.

The Final Word
While the idea of having my PlayStation 2 console available on the road was an intriguing idea, I only wished that this device had come out a little sooner. The installation of the device was extremely easy as the PS2 Compact Gamer Screen simply plugged right into the back of the PlayStation 2 and the screen?s ability to fold down when not in use is a good idea to protect it.

When the Compact Gamer Screen was closed, the slimmed down console with the screen looked like a typical notebook computer. The overall design and concept of the device is excellent. The Intec Compact Gamer Screen?s design is pretty darn good and does provide a nice option towards prolonging the use of your console. The Compact Gamer Screen does provide two earphone jacks right below each of the speakers. The screen controls are just the basic power button, volume control, brightness and contrast and the screen does rotate to 180 degrees so you can play in the comfort of your car.

The installation of the screen is made easy with the perfectly designed connections on the Compact Gamer Screen to the back of the PlayStation 2. Simply match up the connections and turn the two thumbscrews on the game screen to connect it to the console. Once those connections are made and the console is securely fastened, just plug in your PlayStation 2?s AC adapter into the back of the game screen and you?re ready to play. If it sounded that simple, that?s because it really is. To be honest, it took me longer to hook up the PS 2 to my television set than it did to hook up to the Compact Gamer Screen.

If you?re going to stick it out with your PlayStation 2 beyond the upcoming next generation console release, then you?re going to want this Compact Gamer Screen from Intec. The quality of the screen isn?t HD quality but you?re still going to have a blast being able to take your game console anywhere you want (as long as you have an available power outlet to plug into or the car power adapter accessory for that long trip to Grandma?s house on Thanksgiving). The Intec Compact Gamer Screen earns a four out of five star recommendation!

Content Insider #148 - The iGen
NO...Doesn't have a thing to do with "that" smartphone...or "that" store...or "that" tablet. It's the next generation. Kids and we mean little kids. That's what today's products are being designed for/targeted at. You happen to buy one...fine. Watch a little, little kid pick up a smartphone. He/she just uses it. They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. They expect their photos, their video, their music, their stuff immediately when/where/how they want it. Read More

Insider #149 - Game Demographics
The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers." Read More
