Small Tree Announces Support of 4 TB SATA Drives

4 TB Drives Provide Robust Stream Count Improvement over Previous Drives (November 08, 2012)
DMN Newswire--2012-11-8--
Small Tree, the Mac shared storage and networking specialist, announced today that its GraniteSTOR TITANIUM and ST-RAID lines of shared storage systems now support Hitachi's new 4 TB SATA drives. As a result, media production professionals can achieve far greater performance on video-editing projects.

According to Steve Modica, chief technology officer at Small Tree, the 4 TB drives have provided a 33% increase in the already substantial number of streams the company's TITANIUM and ST-RAID systems can handle.

"4 TB drives are definitely a win for media space customers as these drives work exceptionally well with large size files," says Modica. "With Hitachi's introduction of the 4 TB drives, RAIDs will be built with 4k sectors enabled and Small Tree's shared storage systems will simply migrate to a more efficient block size to deliver tremendous performance at a great price point."

GraniteSTOR TITANIUM products provide affordable, all-in-one Ethernet-based shared storage solutions for professional video editors requiring shared access to media files whether it's in their home studio or on the road. The TITANIUM line configurations include 4-, 8- or 16 drive (2, 3 or 4TB drive) configurations and support popular editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Creative Suite, while enabling Windows, Linux, Macintosh and Unix clients to share media files.

Small Tree's GraniteSTOR ST-RAID II system presents robust performance over Ethernet networks while offering optimal cost-efficiency.  ST-RAID II's low latency ensures there are no dropped frames in SD or HD. Available in 8-, 12- or 16-drive (2, 3 or 4TB drive) configurations, ST-RAID II also offers tremendous flexibility, as more storage can be added easily for system expansion.
